First Gmail – email for everyone

The first app that has some great advantages against others is gmail. This was the first app which sole purpose was to send messages and share files. The app was founded 15 years ago and is still to this day the most used app in the world. Some advantages that gmail has is that it is very focused on one thing, sending information. It may be due to the fact that it was the only thing that was important back in 2004, however it is still very functional and what has only been changed is its format. Nevertheless, we as a society have evolved very much during the past ten or so years therefore this may be and advantage but might also be a disadvantage in the sense that we need an app that has got more than just a sharing section. Fortunately there are many apps that have this.

  • Pros: Easy to manage and track.
  • Cons: Spam, delays, slow.

Then WhatsApp – instant messages

WhatsApp was founded in 2009 and it was the next big thing in the digital world in the sense that it was somewhat like gmail but it had a more fun format. This is due to the fact that WhatsApp is only meant to chat between friends, and this was key at the time because it meant that not only you did not have log in every time you’d want to talk to somebody, you also did not have to type their name to talk to them, they would only have to give you their phone number and that was it. Moreover, this app helped speed things up thanks to its low capacity and instantaneous messaging.

  • Pros: Fast, easy to use, private.
  • Cons: Requires a cell phone number.

Instagram – Share your images

However, this is still not the most advanced app in the messaging world, no, that records belongs to Instagram. It was created in 2010 and from the start everybody knew it was up next. This is due to its display of options you could explore. You could either talk to your friends like in WhatsApp via direct message, even with photographs. Although WhatsApp had this capability it is uncomfortable and you can tell it is not meant for that. But, the true value of Instagram is sharing pictures of your daily life and people could comment on them and even give them a like. This was revolutionary at the time because it made people’s lives more interesting and it spreaded your interest all across the world.

  • Pros: Private, aiming to young customers.
  • Cons: Niche, hard to track and use for customers.
